Why Our Authors Are Basically Superheroes

Hear me out on this.

At Indies United, we’ve long suspected something: our authors aren’t entirely human. Sure, they look like regular people. They drink coffee, misplace their glasses, and occasionally forget what day it is like the rest of us. But beneath that ordinary exterior? Superpowers. Real ones. The kind that keep stories alive and the book world spinning.

Let’s break down the evidence.

They juggle more roles than a comic‑book shapeshifter.

Writer, editor, marketer, publicist, social media wrangler, event planner, crisis negotiator, and part‑time wizard of self‑promotion, our authors do it all. Sometimes all before lunch.

They create entire worlds out of thin air.

Some people struggle to assemble a coherent grocery list. Our authors build universes, civilizations, magic systems, and emotional arcs that make readers cry in public. If that’s not sorcery, what is?

They withstand deadlines like they’re made of titanium.

A looming due date would crumble a normal mortal. But our authors? They stare into the abyss, refill their coffee, and keep typing. Cape optional.

They survive the editing process.

Edits can feel like kryptonite, but our authors take every note, every tweak, every “what if we…” and turn it into something stronger. That’s resilience worthy of its own comic panel.

They keep going, even when the world gets loud.

Life throws curveballs. Jobs, families, health, chaos, the occasional existential crisis. And still, our authors show up to the page. That’s not discipline. That’s superhuman heart.

They share their stories with courage.

Publishing, especially small press publishing, requires bravery. It means standing shoulder‑to‑shoulder with books from the Big Five and saying, “Mine belongs here too.” It means trusting strangers with your heart. And our authors do it again and again.

So yes, we’re saying it out loud:

Our authors are basically superheroes.

Not because they leap tall buildings (though some might). But because they create, persist, imagine, and share, and the world is better for it.

Here’s to the caped crusaders of Indies United. We see your powers. We celebrate them. And we’re honored to help you save the world one book at a time.

We hope you will too.
