Last Call for Storytellers

Submit to the Small Bites Short Story Contest by January 31st

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to share your writing with the world, this is it. The Small Bites Short Story Contest is open for submissions until January 31st, and one powerful story—5,000 words or fewer—could open doors you’ve only dreamed about.

This year’s theme, What the Light Revealed, invites writers across genres to explore moments of illumination: truths uncovered, secrets exposed, transformations sparked by clarity. Whether you write fantasy, suspense, historical fiction, sci-fi, mystery, or anything in between, this is your chance to craft a story that shines.

Why You Should Submit

This isn’t just another writing contest. It’s a gateway.

Winners will receive:

  • Cash prizes (amount announced in the awards email)

  • Publication in the Small Bites anthology by Indies United

  • Library of Congress registration for the anthology, with all authors annotated

  • A digital award medallion and certificate

  • An invitation to join the Indies United Publishing House family (for top winners)

And perhaps the most exciting reward of all:

  • An Invitation to the Inklight Festival & Awards Dinner

Held the first weekend in June, the Inklight Festival is a celebration of writers, readers, creativity, and community. Winners are invited to attend the Awards Dinner—with all festival fees waived for the Grand Prize winner if they choose to come in person (travel and lodging not included).

Imagine receiving your award on stage, surrounded by fellow authors, industry professionals, and a community that celebrates your voice.
