End of the Month Chaos – August Edition

The Month That Looked at July and Said, “Hold my iced coffee.”

August didn’t stroll in. It sauntered, with that smug little “I have plans” expression it always wears. And oh, it had plans. Between anniversaries, birthdays, wildlife encounters, and the usual publishing pandemonium, the month was loud, busy, emotional, and just a little sparkly around the edges.

So… a typical month, really.

Indies United Anniversary Shenanigans

On August 12th, Indies United celebrated another year of existence, eight years of authors, stories, caffeine, chaos, and the occasional tech gremlin trying to unionize.

We marked the day with the usual blend of excitement, gratitude, and “how is it already August?” disbelief. The house is bigger, louder, and more alive than ever, and every anniversary feels like a reminder of how far we’ve come and how many stories we’ve helped bring into the world.

Eight years.

Eight years of building something wild, wonderful, and just a little unhinged. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

A Birthday, A Getaway, and One Very Special Stingray

This year’s birthday getaway came with a surprise: a stingray encounter that was less “tourist moment” and more “deep emotional connection with the pool matriarch.”

I didn’t get in the water but she didn’t care. She followed me around the pool, lifting herself halfway out of the water, watching me, seeking attention like we’d known each other for years.

There’s something magical about being singled out by a creature who could easily ignore you but doesn’t. It was the highlight of the trip and the kind of birthday moment you remember long after the candles are gone.

Publishing Mayhem & Milestones

August kept the publishing machine humming, with formatting projects flying across my desk, launch prep stacking itself like an ambitious game of Jenga, graphics being created at all hours, newsletters drafted and sent, website updates wrangled into submission, metadata behaving badly (as usual), authors needing support, and all the tiny invisible tasks that keep IUPH from collapsing into a dramatic pile of paperwork and existential dread. New authors joined the house, new books moved forward, new ideas sparked, and the catalog kept growing — the community buzzing with that wonderful, caffeinated energy that makes this chaotic little publishing house feel alive in all the best ways.

My Writing Life

(a.k.a. The Personal Chaos Corner)

Between anniversary celebrations and stingray diplomacy, I still managed to keep the writing momentum going. The new book is whispering ideas, demanding attention, and generally acting like a toddler with a glitter jar: chaotic, persistent, and impossible to ignore.

If the universe cooperates, 2027 might just see another book with my name on it. No promises, but the spark is real.

IUPH Community Moments

We continued refining immersive book experiences, prepping fall launches, updating materials, and cheering on our authors as they hit milestones of their own. The house is thriving, evolving, expanding, and humming along like a machine powered by caffeine, creativity, and the occasional chaos gremlin.

Final Thoughts

August was messy. August was loud. August was celebratory, chaotic, and full of unexpected magic, from anniversaries to stingrays to the endless swirl of publishing life. And September?

September is already peeking around the corner with that “I have new plans” expression. Fall launches, festivals, new releases, and the slow shift into cozy‑season chaos are on the horizon.

The chaos continues.

But so do I.
