A 5‑Star Win for Cassie Maddox

Timothy R. Baldwin’s Dynasty of Deceit Earns 5-Star Review from Readers’ Favorite

Maryland author Timothy R. Baldwin’s latest mystery thriller, Dynasty of Deceit, has received a 5-star review from Readers’ Favorite, with reviewer Grant Leishman praising the novel’s “fast-paced series of story arcs,” layered twists, and compelling lead investigator, Cassie Maddox.

The second installment in the Cassie Maddox Mystery Series follows private investigator Cassie Maddox as she uncovers financial corruption tied to her uncle’s powerful nonprofit organization, Ignite Global. What begins as suspicious scholarship activity quickly spirals into a conspiracy reaching into the highest levels of business, academia, and civic leadership.

Publisher’s Blurb

When a trail of forged applications and hidden donors leads straight to her uncle’s celebrated nonprofit, private investigator Cassie Maddox finds herself unraveling a conspiracy that reaches far beyond one family. In a city built on secrets, Cassie must expose the truth before the dynasty she uncovers destroys everything she loves—including her own future.

In his review, Leishman highlights Baldwin’s ability to craft a suspenseful and emotionally grounded mystery:

“The twists and turns and the addition of new suspects and surprises give the plot real depth, and uncovering new directions felt like peeling an onion, with each new layer presenting more fascinating layers underneath.”

Leishman also praised Cassie Maddox as “a very likable and relatable character,” noting her determination to “follow the evidence regardless of where it leads and who might be implicated.”

Beyond the central mystery, the review points to the novel’s themes of loyalty, betrayal, family, and moral responsibility, as well as the slow-burning relationship between Cassie Maddox and forensic analyst Rafi Alvi, which continues to develop throughout the series.

Leishman concludes the review by stating:

“I highly recommend this book.”

Dynasty of Deceit continues Baldwin’s noir-tinged mystery series with a story of corruption, privilege, and dangerous secrets hidden beneath the polished surface of Lenape City.
