When Alex Walsh began his day,

there was not a single bullet hole in his jacket

The Void belongs to everyone and belongs to no one. Because of the Cultural War Treaty, the federal government or any agent under their control cannot enter the Void. Ruled for nearly sixty years by gangs and drug cartels, the "settlers" of the Void must live by their wits and their skill at arms. Raised by scientists who had been sequestered in an underground complex in the Texas panhandle, the Walsh family employs their genius to change the quality of life for the citizens of the Void by using technologies far beyond the human imagination. When government forces enter the Void on a capture-or-kill mission, they run into a family of geniuses and Texas Rangers who dedicate themselves to protect the two extraordinary children. The feds soon realize that they are mice attempting to capture one very mean, intelligent cat.

The Void Voyager

Ingredients

  • 2 oz single malt Scotch (choose a smooth, lightly peated variety like Glenfiddich 12 or Balvenie DoubleWood)

  • ½ oz oak-smoked water (see below for DIY method)

  • ¼ oz grenadine (for color and a subtle sweetness)

  • Fresh mint sprig (for garnish)

Oak-Smoked Water (DIY)

  • To make your own:

  • Lightly char a small piece of oak wood (or use oak chips).

  • Place in a heatproof container and pour in 1 cup of boiling water.

  • Cover and let steep for 10–15 minutes.

  • Strain and cool before use.

  • This adds a subtle smokiness without overpowering the Scotch.

Instructions

  • In a mixing glass, combine Scotch and oak-smoked water.

  • Stir gently to integrate the flavors.

  • Pour into a chilled rocks glass over a large ice cube.

  • Add a splash (¼ oz) of grenadine for color—let it settle for a layered effect.

  • Garnish with a fresh mint sprig, gently bruised to release aroma.
