A breakup, a funeral, a proposition and an abduction—Private Investigator JadeAnne Stone is mired in the dirty underbelly of Mexico City.

Private Investigator JadeAnne Stone feels the sniper rifles trained on her back as she hurries across the plaza to Lura’s funeral. Senator Polo Aguirre blames her for his cousin’s death and a cartel is hunting her. But an alluring suitor invited her to Mexico City and, since her breakup, home will be too empty to return. At the funeral the family invites her to the Celebration of Life and Jade and Pepper are again swept into the chaos of the Aguirre clan.

Anibal reveals he is undercover with the DEA and is after his half-brother, Polo Aguirre. He convinces Jade to help him find Lura’s killer and stop the Senator’s illegal cartel activities. The investigation starts with breaking and entering of an upscale home in the south of the capital where they discover a group of children and teens held. . .for sale. Anibal calls for a helicopter and all but two American sisters are air lifted away as an armed attack on the house ensues. Jade vows to return the trafficked teens to their home, but she is wounded in the gunfire. While Jade is in the clinic, the girls vanish, and at dinner the Senator invites her to a Symposium on Human Trafficking. His driver will pick her up at eight the following morning.

The driver is a man from JadeAnne’s past and, out of desperation, she teams with him to find the missing girls before it’s too late. They realize Anibal has something to do with their disappearance, and Quint forces Jade and Pepper to leave his house. Anibal attacks the fleeing trio and men Jade recognize ambush them en route to safety. Quint identifies them as members of the organized crime group, Los Zetas and realizes they were actually after Jade all along.

Quint and the Senator are unable to keep Jade safe. The Zeta buyers arrive at the dog kennels as Jade stumbles across the caged teens and she must rely on herself and a kenneled golden retriever to protect them all from the ultimate betrayal.
