April turned out to be an amazing month for me. Never mind getting my IRS refund back inside of a week, I was informed that The Pillar: A Praetorius Agency Files, No. 2, won the International Impact Book Award for Mystery/Thriller – Suspense Thrillers. That one came as a surprise, a lovely surprise!
Then I received both a delightful Prairies Book Review and an exceptional Literary Titan Review for The Vessel: A Praetorius Agency Files, No. 3. These editorial reviews are so important for generating excitement around a new book release (which isn’t coming until May 31st – I’m ahead of the game for once!) For me, The Vessel was a challenge. It has more horror elements than I’ve introduced into the series before. The topic (a resurrection cult, deadly betrayals) this time required it. Yet anytime an author increases the intensity fear and shock, so too do they need to up the stakes and reactions. I have to admit that I sent my manuscripts to these reviewers more than just a little trepidatious about how my foray into the psychology of extreme terror might be seen. I was so very pleased with the results. In particular, the reviewer for Literary Titan is very obviously a reader of the horror genre. To have received such complimentary criticism from a fan of the genre was worth every moment of worry.
