Bold Hearts, New Voices, and Pre‑Festival Chaos
Hello again, dear readers!
It’s me, Quibble — corners fluttering, bookmark tail swishing, and heart doing a full drum solo because May has arrived, and ohhh, this month is bursting with youthful energy. The air smells like sunshine, fresh pages, and the faint panic of deadlines I definitely meant to dodge. Spring has officially hit the shelves, and every story feels like it’s stretching its legs and shouting, “Tag, you’re it!”
And what a month to shout.
May at Indies United means Youthful Readers Month — a celebration of bold hearts, brave choices, and voices that absolutely refuse to stay quiet. I’ve been hovering around the readers’ stack like a hummingbird on espresso. So many shiny new plots! So many characters making questionable decisions! So many cliffhangers that made me squeak out loud. If you hear rustling in the YA aisle, it’s probably me vibrating with excitement.
But that’s not all.May is also Get Caught Reading Month, which is basically my personal Olympics. I’ve been sneaking around corners, popping out of shelves, and catching readers mid‑chapter like a mischievous librarian ninja. I even tried to hide behind a potted plant, but my bright yellow cover gave me away. And don’t get me started on my calendar — I’ve scribbled so many reminders and deadlines that it looks like a conspiracy board. If you see me sprinting past with a pencil, just assume I’m late for something.
And then… the magic.
With a flick of my quill (and maybe a dramatic flourish or two), I’ve been transforming forgotten drafts into festival‑ready wonders. There’s something about May that makes creativity spark like fireflies. One moment a dusty manuscript is snoozing on a shelf, and the next — poof! — it’s glowing with Ink Magic, pages lifting like they’re ready to take flight straight into June.
Speaking of June…
Inklight 2026 is almost here! June 4th through 6th — three glorious days of stories, authors, readers, panels, mugs clinking, carpets whispering, portals humming, and me trying very hard not to trip over my own punctuation marks. The festival energy is already buzzing through Inkrealm, Indies United VR book world just waiting to soar into the real world. The twinkle lights are warming up. The shelves are practicing their dramatic poses. Even the glitches feel like they’re rehearsing for opening night.
But before I get swept away by festival fever, there’s one more thing May insists on: Editing mayhem.
Yes, yes, I know. I should be calm and professional but it’s Transforming Forgotten Drafts month, and I take these things serious. Have you ever tried editing while your corners are twitching with excitement? I work better with snacks. Preferably many snacks. Possibly an entire snack cart. If you see confetti around me, it’s not a party — it’s just what happens when I get enthusiastic with my pencil.
And of course, May brings its own bouquet of bookish holidays:
Children’s Book Week (first full week of May): I’ll be squeaking over picture books and middle‑grade adventures like a proud parent.
National Limerick Day (May 12): Expect questionable rhymes and even more questionable puns.
National Paperclip Day (May 29): A deeply underrated holiday. I shall celebrate with structural integrity.
Get Caught Reading Month (all month long): You’ve been warned. I’m everywhere.
So here we are: a month of fresh stories, youthful voices, enchanted drafts, frantic calendars, and festival countdowns. Whether you’re diving into YA drama, revisiting childhood favorites, or simply letting your heart soar with a new book, May invites you to read boldly, dream loudly, and leap into the stories waiting just ahead.
With ink‑stained affection,
Quibble
