Quibble’s April Rhyme-Time

Poetic Whimsy, Springtime Scribbles, and Stories in Bloom

Hello again, dear readers!

It’s me, Quibble — corners fluttering in the spring breeze, quill dusted with flower petals, and heart thumping in perfect iambic pentameter. April has arrived, and I’m positively singing with rhyme-time delight. The world is thawing, the birds are gossiping, and every story feels like it’s stretching after a long winter nap.

And what better month for such lyrical mischief?

April is National Poetry Month, and I’ve been scribbling couplets everywhere — on bookmarks, on napkins, on the back of a very patient librarian’s hand. Poetry is tiny magic: brief lines, big emotions, and the kind of word-music that makes your corners curl with joy. Haiku, sonnets, free verse, limericks — I love them all, even the ones that rhyme “orange” with “door hinge.” Bold choices deserve applause.

But before I get too lost in metaphor, I have thrilling news to share.

The Small Bites Short Story Contest winners have been announced! I nearly tripped over my own punctuation marks when I heard. A huge, ink-splattered congratulations to Timothy Baldwin, whose story Exposed earned the Grand Prize. He’ll be joining us at Inklight in June, along with fellow short-story stars Ed Shultz and D. Krauss. I’m already practicing my celebratory confetti-toss — biodegradable, of course. Indie pride never looked so shiny.

April is also bursting with bookish holidays, and my calendar is practically vibrating:

  • Library Week (April 7–13): I’ll be vacationing on Fiction Island, Aisle 5, sipping metaphorical coconut milk and reorganizing plot twists.

  • Celebrate Teen Literature Day (April 11): Angst, identity, and plot armor — the holy trinity of teen lit.

  • Independent Bookstore Day (last Saturday of April): I’ll be hugging shelves, petting cats, and whispering “thank you” to every bookseller in sight.

  • National Encourage a Young Writer Day (April 10): I’ll be handing out tiny quills and even tinier pep talks.

And of course… Easter.

I spent the morning hiding pastel-colored bookmarks inside random books, which is basically the literary version of an egg hunt. If you find one, it means the universe wants you to read something new. Also, I may or may not have nibbled on a chocolate bunny. For research.

Inkrealm has been especially poetic this month. The carpets have started humming in rhyme, the portals are opening with dramatic whooshes, and one of the shelves keeps rearranging itself into couplets. Even the glitches feel like stanzas waiting to be finished. If you wander through, follow the breadcrumbs — they rhyme, too.

And somewhere beyond the April rain, Inklight 2026 is warming up like a stage light. I can almost hear the festival tents rustling and the mugs clinking in anticipation. June is coming, and it’s going to be a story-soaked celebration you won’t want to miss.

So here we are: a month of poetry, celebration, and springtime sparkle. Whether you’re crafting a haiku, cheering for our Small Bites winners, or hopping into a new book with Easter joy, April invites us to rhyme, read, and revel in the magic of words.

With ink-stained affection,

Quibble
