Detective Cadillac Holland's first homicide investigation after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city starts with the question of whether the pit bull who mauled Biggie Charles Lynley was just a good judge of character or was sent to do someone else's dirty work. That may be the easy question to answer in a case where the list of people who wanted Biggie dead seems to grow with every interview. Detective Holland needs to find a creative murderer among the dead man's fiance, his shady bodyguard, a crooked FBI agent,a Hollywood actress who adopted the dead man's son, and the duplicitous attorney who seems to tie everything together.
