Storytelling has always been a big part of Steve Looten’s career, but always in 3-4 minute segments as a local TV sports anchor, not written in a paperback. For more than 20 years, Steve highlighted winning strategies and victories of all his local champions, so his attraction to the 2024 Presidential race is easy to understand. Beginning in 1980, he worked as a sports reporter/anchor at KTVO-TV, KHQA-TV and WGEM-TV. After 20 years on camera, Steve stepped away from the business to two decades of “real jobs.” But after 23 years away, in 2024, Steve returned to his first love, in the spotlight, and shared his storytelling skills again at WGEM-TV in Quincy, IL. I guess he’s a two-termer, too. The equipment, technology and age group of co-workers was shockingly different, but the stories were just as fascinating as a generation ago. Steve has been inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame for his coverage throughout his career. Now retired, Steve enjoyed following the strategies employed in the 2024 Election, and found that many motivators in politics have already been deployed in the sports world. Winners breed winners. Be A Great One is Steve’s first book and has been quite a learning experience. Hopefully he’ll make a few people smile and help inspire many to set out on their next adventure.
